Data Archiving & Purge Module

Synopsis:

This module provides a full set of data archive and purging settings which permit setting a data retention policy at the granularity needed for your product’s point in its development life cycle and your product’s industry sector.

Description:

Customers in the automotive, life sciences, military, aerospace & defense, and other high-reliability industries specify archival requirements for semiconductor manufacturing data. Suppliers to these industries will be contractually obligated to store manufacturing data for extended periods (10-20 years). The Data Archive/Purge module supports these archival needs based on the individual customer and product requirements.

The IC fabrication and test manufacturing process generates an immense amount of data per lot, wafer, and individual unit. For instance, a 300 mm wafer fab with 100K wafers a quarter daily generates data in the petabyte range. Due to cost, no one keeps all data online for multiple years.  Its judiciously saved in hot, warm, and cold data storage (i.e. lower latency memory storage for older data).   Consider that manufacturing engineers save raw equipment sensor data for three months in hot data -storage. Next data generated from the raw data (e.g. an equation to represent a time series of the sensor data) can be archived for a longer period, at warm and cold data storage.

The Data Archive & Purge module provides engineers the ability to set up data retention instructions to archive and purge data.  This results in establishing a consistent and systematic process that can be automated and can assist in balancing the cost constraints versus the contractual archive obligations. In addition, this module directly impacts the performance of the Reporting and Analysis module. Keeping the directly accessible data to a minimum means less data for analysis tools to sort.
