Semiconductor Field Failure Management Software

Role of Portfolio/Product Line Managers in Semiconductor Manufacturing

Whether you’re a fabless company or an IDM (Integrated Device Manufacturer) you may have 10s or 100s of products to manage.  Someone needs to oversee the product from wafers entering the line to shipment to your customer.  Common names for this role include Portfolio Manager or Product Line Manager. They may manage the production of CMOS logic products or the NVM embedded memory products.  They may manage all the engine control unit line of products for your automotive customers, or they may manage the RF receiver products for your wireless customers.  Their knowledge of customer orders for Q3 dictate the wafer starts they order in 20 weeks prior to ship dates.  Thus, having access to current yield values guides their order.

They value any reduction in manufacturing costs thus they partner with product engineers to understand test cost reduction opportunities.  If customer field returns come in the door, they want to know if these events indicate a need for a recall of products from specific lots. Disruptions in the supply chain- yield excursions at wafer sort or final test--  the portfolio manager needs to be made aware of so that they can comprehend the impact to shipping product to customers.  Their ability to manage customer relationships in these situations depends upon the confidence in the numbers they have at their fingertips.
